Professional Saddle-Stitch Booklets & Imposition from Any PDF

Creating booklets, event programs, literary zines, catalogs, and study handbooks for double-sided home or office printing has historically required expensive prepress software like Adobe Acrobat Pro, InDesign, or specialized imposition plugins costing upwards of $50–$200.

Consumer printer drivers often lack reliable booklet features or produce misaligned page margins. Furthermore, uploading sensitive corporate reports or creative manuscripts to cloud converters exposes proprietary data.

AirPDF provides an In-Browser Saddle-Stitch Booklet & Imposition Engine. Everything runs locally on your computer with instantaneous processing and zero cloud exposure.

Precision Mathematical Page Ordering

Folding a stack of paper requires non-linear page ordering:

  • Sheet 1 (Exterior Cover): Prints the back cover (Page $N$) on the left and the front cover (Page 1) on the right.
  • Sheet 1 (Inside Spread): Prints Page 2 on the left and Page $N-1$ on the right.
  • Sheet 2 (Inner Spread): Prints Page $N-2$ on the left and Page 3 on the right.
  • Automatic Multiples of 4 Padding: Documents with non-divisible page counts are padded with clean, non-intrusive blank backing pages.

Vector-Preserving Architecture

Unlike web tools that re-rasterize pages into low-resolution JPEG images, AirPDF utilizes native PDF vector page embedding:

  1. Searchable & Selectable Text: All font typography and glyph encodings remain intact.
  2. Infinite DPI Sharpness: Scaled pages print at maximum physical printer resolution (600 DPI, 1200 DPI, or 2400 DPI).
  3. Faint Fold Guide Option: A light dashed center fold line guides folding, creasing, and saddle stapling.

Easy Printing Instructions

  1. Open the downloaded PDF in your preferred PDF reader (Chrome, Preview, Adobe Acrobat Reader).
  2. Choose Print.
  3. Select Two-Sided (Duplex) printing.
  4. Set duplex binding to Flip on Short Edge (Landscape tumble).
  5. Fold your printed stack down the center line and staple across the spine!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Saddle-Stitch imposition and how do I print it? ▼

Saddle-stitch imposition reorders your pages so that when double-sided sheets are stacked and folded in half down the spine, the pages read in sequential order (1, 2, 3, 4...). To print your booklet, choose 'Double-Sided' (Duplex) in your printer settings and select 'Flip on Short Edge'.

What happens if my document does not have a multiple of 4 pages? ▼

Every sheet folded in half contains exactly 4 booklet pages (2 on front, 2 on back). If your document has 5, 6, or 7 pages, AirPDF automatically rounds up to 8 pages and pads the required blank pages at the end of the booklet, ensuring your cover and inner pages align perfectly.

Are my pages rasterized or blurry? ▼

Never. AirPDF uses true PDF vector form XObjects. All fonts, crisp vector line drawings, high-resolution photos, and searchable text remain 100% vector and pin-sharp at any printer DPI.

Can I create Right-to-Left (RTL) booklets for Manga or Arabic publications? ▼

Yes. Simply toggle the Binding Direction to 'Right-to-Left (RTL)'. The engine will flip sheet placement so that your publication opens from the right, adhering to Japanese Manga and Arabic reading conventions.

Is my document uploaded to a server? ▼

No. All page embedding, geometry calculations, and vector composition happen locally in your browser RAM. Your files remain 100% private and never touch the internet.
